Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026 – Notification Released

Southern Railway has released the Act Apprentice Recruitment 2026 notification for engaging eligible candidates under the Apprentices Act, 1961. A total of 4,471 apprenticeship slots are available across various divisions, workshops and units in designated trades. Eligible candidates can apply online from 28 August 2026 to 27 September 2026, up to 5:00 PM. The recruitment includes Fresher and Ex-ITI categories for trades such as Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Painter, Carpenter, COPA, MLT and others. Selection will be based on a merit list prepared from qualifying examination and ITI marks, as applicable. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend during training.

Education Qualification

Welder	Passed 10th Class with minimum 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system or equivalent, along with ITI in the relevant trade and NCVT/SCVT certificate.
Electrician	Passed 10th Class with minimum 50% marks, with Science as one of the subjects, and passed ITI in the relevant trade from a recognized ITI with NCVT/SCVT certificate.
Electronics Mechanic	Passed 10th Class with minimum 50% marks, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and passed ITI in the relevant trade with NCVT/SCVT certificate.
Secretarial Assistant & Stenographer (English)	Passed 12th Class under the 10+2 system or equivalent and passed ITI in the relevant trade with NCVT/SCVT certificate.
ICTSM	Passed 10th Class and passed ITI in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI with NCVT/SCVT certificate.
COPA/PASAA	Passed 10th Class with minimum 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system and possess the National Trade Certificate issued by NCVT in Computer Operator and Programming Assistant.

Apprentice Stipend Details

Pay Scale / Stipend

1. Fresher – 10th Standard: ₹8,200/- per month.
2. Fresher – 12th Standard: ₹9,600/- per month.Ex-ITI: ₹9,600/- per month.
3. Second Year: 10% increase in the prescribed minimum stipend.
4. Third Year: 15% increase in the prescribed minimum stipend.
5. This amount is an apprenticeship stipend, not a regular Railway employee salary.

Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026

1. Selection ProcessSelection will be based on a Merit List prepared from all eligible candidates who apply.
2. Fresher Category: Merit will be prepared based on marks obtained in Matriculation (10th Standard).
3. Ex-ITI Category: Merit will be calculated using Matriculation marks (100 marks) + ITI marks (100 marks).Equal weightage will be given to 10th and ITI marks for Ex-ITI candidates.
4. For MLT, merit will be based on marks obtained in Higher Secondary, with the required subjects.
5. Candidates must satisfy the prescribed minimum 50% aggregate marks requirement wherever applicable.
6. Shortlisted candidates will proceed for Document Verification and other prescribed formalities.
